Oh its not another spin off from series Prison Break. Relax, no consipracy of any secret company bent on world domination through smartphones and any Cylla by that code name for its memory card. Jailbreak iPhone mean cracking the chroot jail in UNIX-like OS or bypass digital rights management (DRM). It is a specific form of privilege escalation to allows the user to install third party application not from itunes store. Both iPhone and iPod Touch have succesfully jailbreaks, but those jailbreaks always disabled by iPhone firmware updates. Once jailbroken, iPhone users are able to download unlimited 3rd party softwares out of itunes Store via unofficial installers such as Cydia. Through these applications, one can download software to change numerous aspects of the iPhone or iPod Touch, such as changing the theme, installing a new font, etc. Do note that jailbreaking is differ from unlocking, which is SIM unlock ( let iPhone use other mobile network operator service) as its allow user to do a bit of customization to their phone. jailbreak your iphone3.0 here. for iPhone 2.0 jailbreak here
The software, codenamed QuickPWN, was developed by a team iPhone Dev Team which is now the most popular jailbreaker team for both Mac OS X and Windows. Their tricks was to bestow jailbreaking powers during the iPhone restoration process done through a setup wizard-like interface. Two new applications will be added after the process is complete and these will allow the user to install any Apple unapproved applicatons or not available in App Store. FREEDOM!!! 
Another tool which is slower compared to QuickPWN, known as PwnageTool, allows users who are more adventerous or those true blue techies to customized more advanced options throughout the jailbreaking process, such as adding a unique boot image to their iPhone. Yeah, its not for those faint-hearted. PwnageTool can also be used to jailbreak first and second-generation iPod Touches, the latter of which was only recently released by the iPhone Dev Team.
Occasionally, you may come across QuickFreedom which is a tool used to jailbreak the iPod Touch 2G. Despite the similar name, it has nothing to do with QuickPWN. It is a very straight forward tool for both windows and mac users and can jailbreaks devices in under 30 minutes. Fast and furious. One must first make a custom firmware (choose whatever boot logo you desire) and then put it into DFU mode. Then the software will put your device into pre-jailbreak mode. This is the final part, where you restore your ipod using custom firmware in itunes.
Once an iPhone or iPod Touch that is home free, one can install unapproved applications and system tweaks via Cydia or Installer, which are installed onto the iPhone/iPod Touch during the jailbreaking process. You can almost hear Michael Buble serenading “I’m coming home…” in the background. On the latest pulse, iPhone Dev Team have come up with a newer jailbreaker for imprisoned iPhone – Redsno0w 0.1 has been released in April 9th 2009, available for Windows, Mac and Linux. This software has been developed by ‘planetbeing’, non-GUI automated jailbreak, it includes the “24kpwn” therefore it’s untethered jailbreak, this is the official software from the iPhone Dev Team, and it modifies the current installed firmware on the device, no need to restore in iTunes. In version 0.2 it includes some bug fixes, it also allows to double click to run on mac unlike 0.1 which had ran from terminal, some space issues addressed. In version 0.3 there is support for LogoMe 2.2.1 and support for PPC Mac. So until then, Cowabunga!!! you can enjoy adding in your favorites theme and games or applications but do keep your finger crossed they won’t nail your iPhone on the next firmware upgrade.
