Desktop Tower Defense or TD for short is an online strategy flash game by Paul Preece. The current version will be the Desktop Tower Defense Pro with more features available than version 1.5, 1.2 and The graphic and effects is not too impressive compared to Red Alert 3 but it is still very cool – simple and clean. The objective of Tower Defense is simple, you defend your desktop from different waves of creep escaping through the exit on right screen and bottom screen by building a maze with available tower type. You can only shoot down the creeps with you tower but you are not allow to block their escape path.
There are 4 choices and configurations you may start off and one of the choices comes with a very clear tutorial level to familiarize with the defense towers available and creeps that is coming your way. Different towers will cost differently and will have different attack damage, range and upgrade cost. Creeps will come in waves and each waves is shown on the waves bar at the bottom of the the screen. Each creep you kill will gives you the money to buy or upgrade towers. There even shortcuts key to play Tower Defense as follows:
Numbers 1-9: Select Tower Type to place
U: Upgrade selected Tower(must have enough money to activate)
S: Sell selected Tower

Before you start the game you can place some Towers with available funds. As you progress you may build more towers or choose to upgrade them. Do note however, a highly upgraded towers does more damage and more effective than having lots of towers. Plus, how you build or layout your tower defense will determine if you able to win the game. You can checkout the latest scores and winning mazes to learn how to build better maze. Other than that, your timing of your upgrades can help towards winning the game.
Tower Defense is sure fun and there are lot of variety and different mode to play. It would be better if there are more desktop background to choose from and a shorter tutorial. But then the game is way more enjoyable than Tetris and Zuma. If the Desktop Tower Defense Pro configuration is too overwhelming, do start to play version 1.5. Be warn though it is still very addictive games. Try hitting F11 button for if you do release more screen space on your browser for viewing.
